- Possible violations constituting ``Delay of Game'':
- Deliberately shooting puck (with stick or glove) outside playing area
- Goalkeeper shooting puck outside playing area, regardless of intent
- Deliberate displacement of goal cage (penalty shot if
player on breakaway)
- Player or goalkeeper removes helmet/facemask (penalty shot if player
on breakaway)
- Freezing puck to gain stoppage of play, or gathering puck
underneath body
- Continual incorrect number of players being sent out after warning
- Failure to maintain proper face-off position after warning
- Second face-off violation, same team
- Picking up the puck from the ice
- Making unnecessary adjustments to equipment, or conferring with
coaches or other players
- Possible equipment violations:
- Illegal stick, or participation in play with more than one stick -
minor
- Illegal goalkeeper equipment - minor
- Participating in play without helmet - minor
- Player not wearing helmet on any bench - warning, then misconduct
- Player not wearing colored mouthpiece - misconduct, then game misconduct
- Glove with palm removed or cut - minor
- Equipment not worn under uniform (not including gloves and helmet) -
warning, then minor
- Other illegal equipment, including chin-strap violations -
player must leave the ice
- The goalkeeper's privileged area is an area bound on the sides by
imaginary lines drawn from the end spots back and
perpendicular to the end boards, bound in front by an imaginary
line connecting the two end spots, and bound in back by the
end boards.
- The goalkeeper may not be body-checked while in the privileged
area, and especially not while in the goal crease. A major or
minor penalty for ``charging'' shall be assessed in this case.
- The goalkeeper may not cover the puck if some part of his body is
not within the portion of the privileged area which is in front
of the goal line. A minor penalty for ``delay of game'' shall be
assessed to the goalkeeper in this case.
- The goalkeeper may not participate in play beyond the center red line.
A minor penalty shall be assessed for a violation of this rule.
- The goalkeeper may only take warm-ups within the privileged area,
extended to include the area formed by connecting each end zone
face-off spot to where the goal line meets the boards. After a
warning, a bench minor penalty shall be assessed for a violation
of this rule.
- No attacking player may stand in or skate through the goal crease
when the puck is not in the crease. For a violation of this rule,
when the attacking team has possession of the puck, the whistle shall
be blown and the resulting face-off shall be at the nearest
neutral zone spot.
- If the goalkeeper is not in the goal crease, this rule shall not apply.
- If the puck should enter the net while the above condition prevails,
the goal shall be disallowed, and the face-off shall occur as
stated above.
- If an attacking player is being forced into the goal crease by action
of a defending player, this rule shall not apply and any goal
scored shall be allowed.
