Introduction

This paper summarizes the rules of ice hockey in a concise and understandable format. It does not serve as a guide for officiating mechanics, such as positioning, judgment, skating, and signalling. It also does not cover every rule or situation that may occur during a game, but should be adequate for most typical playing circumstances. The rules are taken from the 2001-2003 USA Hockey Official Playing Rules Book.
